ECP selects caretaker PM: Mir Hazar Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has selected Mir Hazar Khan Khoso from Balochistan to serve as the caretaker prime minister.

On its second day of deliberations, the Election Commission gave its verdict in favour of the government nominee Justice (retired) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso. The decision was taken by majority votes as member from Punjab Justice (retired) Riaz Kiyani differing from the decision wrote a note of dissent on the order.

new pmThe ECP session was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim while all four members representing the four provinces were in attendance.

Speaking to the media upon arrival at the Election Commission, the member from Sindh Roshan Essani said that all the ECP members are respectable and that the decision will be unanimous or by majority vote.

Parliamentary Committee failed to reach consensus

Earlier, the parliamentary committee failed to decide on a caretaker prime minister even after three consecutive days of vigorous discussions, following which the matter automatically fell into the ECP’s court to be decided.

Justice (R) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso

Mir Hazar Khan Khoso was born in Jafferabad in September 1929 and later graduated from Sindh University. He was considered a competent lawyer and well versed in different fields of law.

Mir Hazar Khan Khoso became a judge of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) in 1977 and has served as BHC chief justice from 1990-1991.
